    Sccharin, a carcinogenic molecule

I am going to talk about the improbability of a single Molecule as Carcinogenic
Sccharin, a molecule considered to be mildly carcinogenic
is put forward to illustrate this point. An epidemiological study was done to asses the relationship between steady use of
    single Molecule
    single Molecule
low doses of saccharin by million people and cancer incidence. The expected increase in cancers among steady users of low doses of saccharin was not seen in this study . The average daily intake of saccharin was 0.1 gram .Even with this large number of molecules, an increase in the cancer risk was not shown.
Another criticism of the single -molecule hypothesis is that all scientific experiments to determine carcinogenicity would be invalid, since it would be impossible to eliminate contamination by single molecules.
For instance, a picogram of saccharin, an amount less than can be measured by sophisticated analytical techniques, contains more than two billion molecules. Thus, in any experiment, may be present below analytical levels. If all that is needed is a single molecule, then no experiment could truly establish that increased cancer risk was actually due to the agent under study , as a few contaminating molecules left on the glassware or animal's cage from a prior experiment could dramatically alter the results.
Pic was brought to you from Wikipedia.
